Meeting Details:

• Update on Boys and Girls Club - Tonight is a time for us to reflect on this year’s successes. With the help of many of you here, and some others, not, we have been able to accomplish one of our long time goals this year. The Boys and Girls Club of Central Maryland will have an Arbutus location. Dr. Williams is here with us this evening and he will provide some details on the timeline, but the mere fact that this will happen within this year is truly a cause for celebration.

• GACA Scholarship Award -  For the first time, GACA is in a position to offer a scholarship to a local student. Our recipient, Laura Happel is an active young member of our community. We are pleased to be able to assist her in attaining a first rate education at the college of her choice, Salisbury State. We wish her every success.
  

• Update on Streetscape - By the time we meet again in September, Streetscape in Arbutus should be under contract. We expect to meet in June with the conceptual artist about “gateway” enhancements to the Sulphur Spring Rd. underpass. Thanks to the continued efforts of Del. Malone, in cooperation with Councilman Moxley, additional funds have been secured so that paving and lighting may be installed in conjunction with other Streetscape work so that the result will be a completely refurbished business district.
  

• Vote for Arbutus Motto - Tonight, we will also ask you to vote for a motto for Arbutus. We have made some preliminary plans for a brochure emphasizing the many attributes of living in this community. We will continue to work on this as Streetscape progresses so that we can portray Arbutus in the most positive light.
  

• Update on History of Arbutus project - Finally, by next May, the History of Arbutus will be a reality. After much research, some of which will continue this summer, GACA received a grant this winter which will permit publication. Donna Cameron initiated this project several years ago, and I know she will be glad to have her dining room back when it is concluded.

We hope that this year we have provided you with information you could use and stimulated your interest in being an active member. We thank all of our guest speakers and attendees, who took time from busy schedules to join us and share their expertise. We look forward to continuing our efforts and hope you will join us!
