Highlights: GACA General Meeting
January 21, 1999
GACA Financial Records - An independent audit of the financial records has been completed. The audit was favorable with only minor modifications to the accounting method suggested. The auditor's letter will be available for inspection at the March meeting.
Zoning - The membership discussed the zoning issue at 1220 North Avenue. (Further details are available on the Zoning page.) After a review of the complaint by Donna Cameron, the membership voted to oppose the request of the petitioner and permit the Zoning Committee to represent GACA at the hearing. Both votes passed unanimously.
Hollywood Video - There are only 5 copies left!
Community Plan - Baltimore County Senior Planner Dianna Itter reported that a plan committee has been formed and a first meeting scheduled for development of the Greater Arbutus Community Plan. Committee members will meet over the next twelve to eighteen months to work on a comprehensive list of goals and priorities for the area.
Rebuilding Community Support - The focus of our January meeting was "Rebuilding Community Support" and we are pleased to say that the response was excellent. Among those who attended:
The Arbutus Business and Professional Association (ABPA) announced plans to erect a new sign at the entrance to Arbutus located at Southwestern Blvd. and Linden/Stevens Ave.
Sandy Cullen of the Halethorpe Improvement Association brought a "welcome package" she has put together for new residents. We will work with the ABPA to try to expand the package to include merchant coupons.
Community Outreach Officer Theresa D'Anna (Precinct One) reported that crime statistics are down in this district.
Linda Marcioudis provided an update on the Maiden Choice Shopping Center including the information that the target opening date for the new Mars store is June 1, 1999.
Our elected officials also gave brief reports. Delegate Jim Malone discussed the proposed ethics bill. Del. Malone has been named Chair of the subcommittee on Motor Vehicles and Vice-Chair of the Baltimore County Delegation. Bryan Sheppard, aide to Councilman Sam Moxley, will report to the Councilman on several issues of local concern.
And, as you can see, the Web page is alive and well. Our special thanks to Joe Wickless for his efforts in making this happen! We look forward to seeing you in March.
