Scholarships
The Arbutus Business and Professional Association is pleased to announce the winners of our 2011 Scholarships. Each winner is awarded a $1,000 scholarship in recognition of volunteer efforts in the community.
The 2011 winners are:
Christopher Griffin, a graduate of Western High School, Christopher will attend Stevenson University with a goal of majoring in Chemistry. His career plan is to enter the field of forensic science.
Christopher has volunteered for the Southwest Emergency Services (SWES) and is active as a member of his church choir and as a youth helper. He ranked second in his class at Western.
Keanna Mathis is looking forward to starting her college career and plans to major in Psychology. A graduate of Lansdowne High School, Keanna has worked at Charlestown Retirement Community while participating in a variety of activities including dance, cheerleading, and field hockey. She was an honor roll member from 2004 through her graduation and was active with Girl Scouts participating in a scouting tour of Europe in 2009. Locally, her troupe participated in stream clean-ups, held bingo events for seniors and other community service activities.
Keanna graduated in the top fifth of her class.
Jessica Paschall is also a graduate of Lansdowne High School and is looking forward to a career in forensic science or cyber-security. A member of the National Honor Society, Jessica balanced a part-time job at Rita’s Italian Ice with a second job at the Anne Arundel County Public Library. She still found time to volunteer at the Arbutus Library and as a tutor to students at Lansdowne Middle School.
Jessica graduated in the top sixth of her class, participating in the tennis team and the Tri-M choir.
The ABPA salutes these hardworking and dedicated young people as they begin their college experience.
