Holiday Project 2001
The Volunteer Office of the Baltimore County Dept. of Social Services is sponsoring "Holiday Project 2001" to help needy Baltimore County families.  Individuals and groups determine how and at what level they wish to participate -- some donors "adopt" a family to provide food for the Christmas meal and other non-perishables, a new toy/gift for each child, and perhaps a clothing item for each family member; some prepare food baskets; others set up a "Mitten/Sock/Hat/Undies Tree" or a "Giving Tree" to collect toys, while others raise funds for the purchase of needed items.  To participate or for more information, contact Deborah Ward, Director of Volunteer Services (410) 853-3024.

Help Our Youth Improve School Attendance
You can help our youth improve their school attendance by volunteering for Project Attend.  Some of our young people no longer attend school on a regular basis.  Very often, all they need is a little encouragement to know that someone cares and will be willing to monitor their attendance.   YOU CAN BE THAT SOMEONE.  Volunteers have made a big difference in getting students back on track, as well as improving the attendance and academic achievements of these young people.  The commitment can be 10 minutes to 1/2 hour per day.  For more information, call Anna Jackson, Volunteer Coordinator (410) 887-2059 or (410) 887-2075, or email ajackson@co.ba.md.us.
